SANTO DOMINGO.— Lending a bank account to a family member, friend or acquaintance may seem like a simple gesture of trust, but this practice could have consequences for the owner. For this reason, ProUsuario urged citizens to maintain exclusive control of their accounts and prevent third parties from using them to receive, transfer or withdraw money.

The entity warned that a bank account should not be provided to other people, regardless of the degree of kinship or relationship of trust, since the operations carried out may compromise the responsibility of its owner.

Among its recommendations, ProUsuario urged to reject any request to use a personal account as an intermediary in financial transactions, as well as not to share access codes, bank cards or personal identification numbers (PIN).

He also advised distrusting offers that involve receiving or moving money on behalf of third parties, especially when the origin of the funds or the purpose of the operations is not clearly known.

What to do if you have already lent your account?

ProUsuario recommends immediately stopping this practice and preventing other people from continuing to use the account to carry out financial operations.

The entity recalled that the owner must responsibly manage their banking products, because improper use of an account can affect their financial profile and, depending on the circumstances, generate legal consequences.

Lending a bank account is not a simple favor. Maintaining control of transactions, protecting confidential data and rejecting suspicious requests are essential measures to take care of your financial history and avoid unnecessary risks.

The recommendation is clear: your bank account is personal; Do not lend it, even if the person asking for it is someone you trust.
