SANTO DOMINGO.- The Gualey Residents’ Board denounced that it does not know the purpose of the Executive Unit of the Ministry of the Presidency (URBE), which has launched an audit of the residences in the Gualey sector, located in the northern part of the National District.
Residents of the community have not been properly informed about the nature of the uprising which are being carried out by brigades from this state agency. Unofficially, concerns have been raised about the possibility of an imminent eviction. It has been indicated that the project, supposedly under the direction of the Ministry of Public Works, seeks to relocate the families who live in the area.
The staff who visit the houses ask the inhabitants for documents, claiming that they are doing so to grant ownership certificates. In some cases, they also ask for the identity cards of families whose parents have died.
Although there is a version circulating that this initiative is related to the maintenance of the Francisco de Rosario Sánchez Bridge, it has also been reported that it could be linked to the development of a housing project.
According to sources, this project would be part of a broader plan that seeks to continue the extension of a recently built avenue in the Ciénaga sector, which would connect with the Juan Pablo Duarte highway.
Uncertainty
Despite the seriousness of the situation and its potential impact on thousands of residents, government authorities have yet to issue an official statement or provide details about the project. The lack of information has generated uncertainty and concern in the community, which is awaiting clear answers about its future.
“We ask the Government of President Luis Abinader to provide details of what is being planned in Gualey because any action would affect the thousands of families who live there. From this moment on, we declare ourselves on alert and vigilant to prevent our rights as property owners who live there from being violated,” explained the director of the Residents’ Association.
